Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Emmie is painfully shy and loves to draw. Through her eyes we experience one day in her life as a 7th grader, waiting for her best friend, a more outgoing, academic-oriented girl named Brianna who is sometimes frustrated with Emmie’s lack of social skills. But this one particular day is the one where things start to change and all because of a mistake.

I was drawn in (ha) from the beginning, but the ending was what hooked me. I really liked the format of the two girls’ stories overlapping and seeing both events through their eyes. The first person narrative helps build empathy for both types of personalities. I also loved the ending which had a twist. Excellent (and quick) read!
