The BFG

by Roald Dahl

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

In a few days, I am going to see a stage performance of this book with my little cousins, so I figured I should finally bite the bullet and read this book. I started it when I was little and it scared the bejeezus out of me. I could not get past the opening scene, where a little girl is snatched out of her bedroom in the middle of the night. Even if the snatcher turns out to be as friendly as the title implies!

So, I finally made it all the way through, and of course it turned out to be charming, as is par for the course for Mr. Dahl. The little girl, Sophie, becomes dear friends with the Big Friendly Giant, and together they save the world from the other, bigger, human-eating giants – with the help of the Queen of England and her army. I especially loved the words the BFG made up and the way he talks. Other than that, I’m skeptical as to how exactly they’re going to make this into a play!
