Reality Boy

by A.S. King

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
“Reality Boy” is Gerald, made famous because his family appeared on one of those reality shows like Nanny 911 where a child expert comes in and tries to fix your child(ren)’s behavior problems. With two older sisters, 5-year-old Gerald acted out by pooping in strategic places. When the book opens, Gerald is 15 and has dealt with this infamy most of his life. This is the tale of his struggles with infamy, his family, and overanalyzing himself. Gerald’s story gets weirder and weirder until you step back and really feel sorry for him. I especially liked reading how he dealt with his anger and his temper, and found I respected him even more for that piece of his psyche.
