The Candymakers

by Wendy Mass
Overall: 3 out of 5 stars

This one took me several tries to get into. I was not drawn in by the beginning at all, so I’ll tell you that it’s told in four sections, with each section told by one of the four kids in the candymaking competition. We get to hear from each one their personal struggles and triumphs, and also get to see how they appear to other people. Often the truth is not what you’d expect, and it might make you think twice before judging others. I really liked that the four competitors came together in the end and all came out ahead.
