Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

by Benjamin Alire Saenz

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

The first half of this book was so perfect that it hurt a little bit, reading it. I was waiting for something to happen and it took longer than I thought so I gave up, and then it finally happened at the end of the book, which was a bit anti-climactic. But I love Ari and Dante both, and watching their friendship grow was a treat. I also loved how Saenz wove poetry into it, and the relationships that Ari and Dante have with their parents are pretty great. Their families are also different – Dante seems to have a simple, loving relationship with his parents, while Ari’s is much more complicated. His father is still mentally in Vietnam, and his older brother is in prison, but with Dante’s help, Ari makes some progress in these complicated relationships.
