Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Personal Evaluation: I was really confused for a good chunk of pages until I figured out the Bone characters. What finally hooked me was how Phoney Bone looked like Calvin and Fone Bone looked like Hobbes, both in facial expressions and general attitude. I thought the storyline was pretty unique and I found myself intrigued at the end to find out how the story continued in the next book.
What might interest children: Magical talking bugs, protective dragons, evil rat creatures. Fone Bone is endearing and the plot and language are not too complex (my own difficulties aside). Gran’ma Ben is also an intriguing character. Aside from that, I’m not entirely sure what the allure is for young readers. but they sure are popular.
