Three Tales of My Father’s Dragon

by Ruth Stiles Gannett
Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I had never heard of this so-called “classic” before coming to my current library, but they just bought this 50th anniversary edition, with all three stories in it. Each story is divided into chapters, but with big type and lots of pictures it is a quicker read than you’d think. It’s very imaginative, even if it only lost points for not getting the math right about how many tangerines Elmer Elevator had left at any given time. I can easily see how these stories became classics, but I have to say I’m glad we got a brand new copy that went right to our new books display shelf. Otherwise I would never have found it, and now Elmer, his Dragon, and friends are permanently etched in my imagination.
