I’m a sucker for a kid with a nickname. Stink, Beezus, Sticky and Batty are some that jump to mind, and Bean fits solidly into that category. I loved her friendship with Ivy and the conversations they had seemed completely real, especially compared with other seven-year-olds I know, and didn’t seem too old or young for their age. I was struck by how interesting it was for the reading level it was. I think it would definitely keep a kid’s interest, even a boy’s, provided they haven’t yet hit the age where they won’t read a book with girl protagonists, on account of the worms and bugs.
