Stars: 4.5 out of 5

Sylvie is an absolutely adorable flamingo who, upon learning that she is pink because of the shrimp she eats, decides to try a little experiment to see if other colored things will change her color.  They do, but she eats some thing that are not meant to be eaten, so she gets a tummyache, but figures out a cute solution.  I loved this book because the illustrations are simple but stellar, and the Junior Kindergartners wanted to hear it four times!   I also liked that it started with a nugget of truth and shows well how authors get ideas – Sattler took this fact and let her imagination run with it – though explaining that the story was part true, part made up, didn’t take so well with the 4-year-old set.

Overall: totally adorable, goes over well in storytime.
